Meet Jay Jones

A Lifetime of Service to Lee County

Sheriff Jay Jones began his law enforcement career with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in 1975 while he was a student at Auburn University. Since then, he has dedicated his life to protecting and serving the citizens of Lee County, both as a Deputy Sheriff, as Sheriff, and as an active member of the community.

Serving the Community, On and Off Duty

Jay is an active part of the Lee County community as a part of various organizations and boards such as Auburn Rotary Club and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #21 as well as on the state and federal level such as Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Commission and the Alabama and National Sheriffs Associations. Outside of work, he enjoys nature photography, running, and can be found around town supporting local businesses.

From Montgomery to Auburn, A Foundation in Public Service

Jay grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, one of four children. After graduating from Sidney Lanier High School, he attended Auburn University and earned a degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Administration in 1976.

Family and Faith in Service

Jay and his wife, Judy, have been Auburn residents for over 50 years. Together they share children and grandchildren who are a central part of their lives.

Judy dedicated her career to public service as a social worker with the Alabama Department of Human Resources, later serving with Columbus Hospice and currently as a Board Member of the Food Bank of East Alabama.

Both Jay and Judy have committed their lives to helping the residents of Lee County and supporting those in need.
